Music Directors

Simon took up the role of Musical Director of Glenorchy City Concert Brass in 2020, having previously worked with the band at national contests in 2017 and 2019.

A highly experienced conductor, he has led the Hobart Wind Symphony to four National 'A' Grade Concert Band titles (2009, 2010, 2013, 2017) and holds conducting roles with the Conservatorium Orchestra and UTAS Wind Ensemble.

He has worked extensively as a freelance conductor with the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and in 2019 was a Tasmanian finalist for the Australian of the Year Local Hero award. An accomplished trumpet player and composer, Simon teaches brass and woodwind across several Hobart schools.

Marty is an accomplished trombonist and graduate of the University of Tasmania and the University of Melbourne. With an extensive career spanning Australia and overseas, he has performed and taught across the Australian mainland as well as internationally in Thailand, the United States, and, more recently, Japan.

Since returning to Hobart in 2017, Marty has established himself as an active performer, educator, and conductor within Tasmania's music community. In 2021, he was appointed Musical Director of Glenorchy City Community Brass, where he continues to lead the ensemble while fostering musical excellence and community engagement.

Alongside his conducting commitments, Marty teaches music across a range of schools and ensembles throughout Tasmania and remains an in-demand freelance trombonist, performing regularly with a diverse range of orchestral, brass, and contemporary groups.

Dean Hunt OAM brings over 50 years of brass band experience to Bandit. A long-standing member of Glenorchy City Brass, Dean has served as Musical Director of both the Concert Brass and Youth Brass ensembles, leading the band at numerous Australian National Band Championships.

In 2022 he was awarded the TBL Jubilee Certificate for 50 years of service, and he holds the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his contribution to music and the community.

Dean is passionate about developing beginner players and is excited to help Bandit members take their first steps in brass.
